Small Change, Big Impact

Alrighty. Let’s talk hardware. I know, “Boooring.” But, truly, a change of hardware can make such a difference to a piece of furniture, or the architecture of your home. We all know a paint colour switch-up can have huge impact, but also keep in mind the often-forgotten hardware.

Let’s take a dresser for example.

Original metallic ring pulls

Glass pulls

We could use metallic pulls or glass knobs with very different effects. Play with newer styles to give a piece an updated, contemporary look, or seek out vintage hardware for a classic, retro feel. Hardware can blend into the piece and be very subtle, or introduce some exciting colour to give a fun contrast. Bright colour means instant eye-catching appeal.

Red and black polka dot pulls

Also, the right hardware can make your pieces much more functional. We tend to notice when things just don’t work well without knowing why. Sometimes a new set of pulls make a previously-stubborn drawer seem effortless. Think about the user. In children’s rooms, little hands need comfortable and easy-to-use hardware.

The bottom line: a hardware update is a low-cost and easy way to make a big impact in your home. Grab your screwdriver and change it up!

For your little art lover!

Greetings friends, on this blustery Vancouver day. Yes, we are really in the thick of the ‘grey period’ of the year. If your eyes are like mine, they crave something fun and bright when the clouds take our colours away and we spend more time inside. I believe our little ones feel the same way. Luckily, we have talented Liz Clay of Cici Art Factory to keep us surrounded by whimsical and vivid images. Capture the imagination of your tiny art lovers by introducing perfectly kid-friendly prints into their spaces. We’ve got new pieces in store such to suit boys and girls alike. And why not get a head start on that ‘Gallery Curator’ training? Bring the kids in to help select the perfect piece.

The Kid’s Table

Aqua table and chair set with vintage pink linens

It’s a big moment in a young person’s life — the transition from the kid’s table to the ‘grown-up’ table at holiday dinner. Oh, the wonder of the grown-up table. The food looks better over there. Certainly the topics of conversation are fascinating and very important. The kid’s table is for babies!

Well, your little ones might feel this way for now, but in the meantime, why not give them the best possible kid’s table so that they can enjoy themselves as much as possible given the circumstances? As enticing as that big table may seem, it’s just, well, too big. Legs dangle over too-tall chairs, and tabletops are alarmingly close to chins. If we’re being honest here, eating way up at that grown-up table is a little daunting after all.

What does the perfect kid’s table look like? Well, it’s the right size for starters. No phone books on seats required! Table top and seat heights suit small bodies just fine. And what about colour? Make it fun, make it interesting. Kid-friendly shades, and creative custom finishes make things a little more special. Perhaps as an extra treat, kids can pick the finish themselves. Now we’re talking ‘grown-up.’

Hand painted table and chairs

The best part of all, kid’s table and chair sets aren’t just for holiday dinner. Oh, no. Why, they work in play areas and bedrooms, too;-) Who knew?
